Explanation:

Given A reinforced concrete beam of 10 m effective span and 1 m effective depth is supported on 500 mm ×500 mm column if total uniformly distributed load on beam is 10 mn/m the design shear force for beam is

  • We need to find the design shear force at a section 1 m away from the face of the column.
  • The effective span of beam is the clear span plus effective depth of beam
  • So the shear calculation will be
  • 500 mm x 500 mm = 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25
  • So s = 0.25 + 1 = 1.25 m
  • Therefore design shear force will be 10 x 10 / 2 – 10 x 1.25
  •                                                                        = 50 – 12.5
  •                                                                      = 37.5 MN
