Tortoise is the reptile with a hard shell that lives on land.
The upper part of shell is called dome which is internally fused with their vertebral column.
The lower part of shell or the ventral part is called plastron which is generally fused with the sternum and ribs.
The land tortoises has feet with toes.
There similar creatures like that of land tortoises but in aquatic habitat.
They are called turtles.
Turtles do not have feet, instead they have flippers which help them to swim in water.
Mostly the turtles are marine.
The fresh water counterpart is known as terrapins in some countries.
