A resistive potential divider R1R2 with a resistance of 5Kohm and a shaft stroke of 125 mm is used in the arrangement shown in fig (a). Potentiometer R3R4 has a resistance is such that R1= R2 i.e. the wiper is at midstroke. At the start of the test of 5Kohm and e= 5.0 V. The initial position to be used as reference point is such that R1=R2. is adjusted so that the bridge is balanced and e= 0 V Assuming that the displacement is being measured will move a maximum distance of 12.5 mm towards A, calculate the value of e.

Thus the value of voltage is 0.5 V

Explanation:

We are given that:

  • Resistance = 5 K ohm
  • Shaft stroke = 125 mm
  • Voltage = 5.0 V
  • To Find: Value of e = ?

Solution:

We know that 125 mm corresponds to 5000 Ω

Now for 75 mm = 5000 / 125  x 75 = 8000 Ω

Now for Voltage Vo:

Vo = 5 v x (3000 / 5000 - 2500 / 5000 ) = 0.5 V

Thus the value of voltage is 0.5 V
