A resistor having resistance of 12Ω is connected across a battery having EMF of 30V and internal resistance of 3 Ω. What

will be the current in the circuit and the potential drop across the external resistor.

Current in resistor, I =

I = E / (R + r)

E = 30V , R = 12Ω, r = 3Ω

I = 30/15

I = 2A

potential drop, V

V = E - Ir

30 - 2(3)

30 - 6

= 24 V
