A resistor of 8 ohm. Calculated in parallel with another resistor X. The resultant resistance of the combination is 4.8 ohms. What is the value of the resistor X?

Here  

R=4.8 ohms

R1= 8ohms

R2= X ohms

1/4.8 =1/8+1/X

10/48 = 8+x/8x

10(8x) =(8+x)48

80x=8x48 +48x

80x-48x=384

32x=384

x=384/32

x=12 ohms

∴ The value of X is 12ohms
