External respiration is also known as breathing, involves both bringing air into the lungs (inhalation) and releasing air into the atmosphere (exhalation).

External Respiration Exchanges Gases Between the Lungs and the Bloodstream. Inside the lungs, oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide waste through the process called external respiration

Internal respiration is the process of diffusing oxygen from the blood, into the interstitial fluid and into the cells. Internal respiration is also known as cellular respiration
