Given :- A restaurant freezes a cherry and lime juice mixture to create slushes. Cherry juice costs $5 per quart, and lime juice costs $3 per quart. Each day, the restaurant spends a total of $36 on 8 quarts of juice. The restaurant manager organizes the information in the table below.

Which equation can be used to determine the amount of cherry juice in each mixture?

A) 5c + 3(8 – c) = 36.

B) 5c + 3(8 – c) = 8.

C) c + (8 – c) = 8.

D) c + 5 = 5c.

Solution :-

Let us assume that, the amount of cherry juice is c quarts.

given that, the total amount of the juice is 8 quarts.

So,

→ The amount of lime juice = Total amount + amount of cherry = (8 - c) quarts.

Now, we have given that,

→ cost of cherry juice is = $5 / quart .

and,

→ cost of lime juice = $3 / quart.

So,

→ cost of c quarts of cherry juice = 5 * c = $ 5c .

and

→ cost of (8 - c) quarts of lime juice = 3 * (8 - c) = $ 3(8 - c).

Now, given that, the restaurant spends a total of $36 on 8 quarts of juice.

Therefore,

→ cost of cherry juice + cost of lime juice = Total amount spent.

→ 5c + 3(8 - c) = 36. (Option A) (Ans.)
