A retailer allowed 12% discount and sold a T-shirt at lose of Rs 10. But if it sold it at 10% discount he would have gained Rs 20 For what price did he purchase the T-shirt?

Loss Rs 16

CP = 88x/100 + 16 …(1)

Now new discount 10% on MP x

New SP 90x/100

Profit Rs 20

CP 90x/100 - 20. …(2)

From (1) and (2) above, we get

88x/100 + 16 = 90x/100 - 20

88x + 1600 = 90x - 2000

2x = 3600

X = 1800 ( MP is Rs 1800)

Putting the value of X in (1) above, we get

CP = 88/100 * 1800 + 16

or 1584 + 16

or 1600

Ans. CP is Rs 1600
