Explanation:

Given A retailer buys a sewing machine at a discount of 15% and sells it at Rs 1955. In the bargain he makes a profit of 15%. How much is the discount which he got from the wholesale?

Let the marked price be Rs x

Discount is 15%

Cost price of machinery for the dealer = (x - 15% of x) = Rs 17 x / 20 x

                                             15% of 17 x / 20 = 1955 – 17 x / 20

                                                51 x / 400 + 17 x / 20 = 1955

                                                391 x = 1955 x 400

                                                 391 x = 782000

                                   So x = Rs 2000

Now discount received by the retailer = 2000 x 15 / 100

                                                            = Rs 300
