Question:

A right circular cylinder just encloses a sphere of radius 10cm.

  1. Find surface area of the sphere.
  2. Curved surface area of cylinder.

Given:

  • Radius of both = 10 cm.

To Find:

  1. Surface area of the sphere.
  2. Curved surface area of cylinder.

Solution:

1. Surface area of sphere  = {4 \pi r}^{2}

 4 \times \frac{22}{7} \times {10}^{2}

 4 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 10 \times 10

 \frac{88}{7} \times 10 \times 10

 \frac{8800}{7}

 \boxed{1256.64 \: cm}

2. Curved surface area of cylinder = 2πrh

→ 2 × 22/7 × 10^2 {height of cylinder is radius of circle}

→ 44/7 × 10 × 10

→ 4400/7

→ 628.58 cm
