A right triangle has legs of 6 and x, and a hypotenuse of r. if 5r = 5x + 9, what is the value of r + x?

Hypotenuse = r

and given that a relation between x & r. that is,

5r = 5x + 9

Now simplify

5(r-x) = 9

r - x = \frac{9}{5} ----------------------------  (1)

NOw we use the pythagoras theorem.

r² = x² + 6²   ⇒  r² - x² = 36

(r - x)(r + x) = 36

r + x = \frac{36}{r - x}

we know the value of r-x . put the value of r- x

We get ,

r + x = 20

That's the final answer.
