The original price of the ring is 1400 pounds.

Let the original price of the ring be 100 pounds

So the savings =40 pounds

Resultant price after reduction= 60 pounds

Now, on equating the two conditions we get:

60 pounds is equivalent to 840 pounds

So, 100 pounds is equivalent to= (840/60)* 100 = 1400 pounds.
