Question :

A river 3 m deep and 40 m wide is flowing at rate of 2 km/hr. How much water will fall into the sea in a minute ?

Answer :

400000 litre water will fall into the sea in a minute.

Step-by-step explanation :

Given, a river 3 m deep and 40 m wide is flowing at the rate of 2 km/hr.

Cross sectional area of river -

→ 3 × 40

→ 120 m²

Now, volume of water flowing through this cross section in every minute -

→ Area × Rate

→ 120 × 2 km/hr

→ 120 × 2000/60 m/min

→ 2 × 2000

→ 4000 m³

Since, 1 m³ = 1000 litres

So, 4000 m³ =

→ 4000 × 1000 = 4000000 litres

Height=3m

Breadth=40m

Speed=2km/hr=2×5/18=5/9m/s

Length=5/9m ,when time is 1 sec

Volume=l×b×h=3×40×5/9=200/3cubic metre

In 1 sec water fall into the sea=200/3cubic metre

In 1min(60sec) water fall into the sea

=200×60/3=4000 cubic metre
