Question :

a river 6m deep and 50m wide is flowing at the rate of 2km per hour how much water will fall into the sea in a minute.

Solution :

Water Falling in river in 1 hour = 2 km = 2000 m

In 1 minute = 2000/60 = 100/3 m

[1 Hour = 60 minutes ]

The required length we get = 100/3 m

Then the volume is to be found by using the formula for finding volume of a cuboid =

Length × Breadth × Height = 100/3 × 6 × 50 m³ = 4000 m³

The required volume is 4000 m³ .

Water Falling in river in 1 hour = 2 km

In metres = 2000 m

We know that 1 hour = 60 minutes

Then in 1 minute = 2000/60 = 100/3 m

So length of the river = 100/3 m

Breadth = 50 m

Height = 6 m

Volume :

Length × Breadth × Height = 100/3 × 6 × 50 m³ = 4000 m³
