A rock slab of density 2500 kg.m-3 lies at the bottom of a pool of water whose density is
1000 kg.m-3. If the volume of the rock slab is 0.05 m3, determine the force required to lift
the slab.

Answer:

Volume of stone =

densityofstone

massofstone

=

3000kg/m

3

150kg

Volume of stone = 0.05m

3

Buoyant force = V

im

×ϱ×g

= 0.05×1000×10

= 500 N

So force needed to lift stone = 150×10−500

= 1000 N.
