Given  :  A rocket moving around the earth at height “H”,   the gravitational acceleration “g1“ at height “H” is ½ of gravitational acceleration “g“ at earth surface.

Earth radius is ”R”,

To Find : “H” using R.

Solution:

g =  GM/R²  at surface of earth

g₁  at H  = g/2

g₁ = GM/ ( R + H)²

g/2 = GM/ ( R + H)²

g =  GM/R²

=>  GM/2R²  = GM/ ( R + H)²

=> ( R + H)² = 2R²

=> R  + H = √2R

=> H = R(√2 - 1)
