A rod bar of length 2m rest on smooth horizontal floor. If the rod is heated from 0 clelsius to 20 clesius . Find the longitudinal strain developed?

# Given-
l = 2m
T1 = 0 °C
T2 = 20 °C

# Solution-
Suppose, length of rod changes from L to L' during heating.
∆L = L' - L

Longitudinal strain is related to heating as-
ΔL/L = αΔT
where, α = coefficient of thermal expansion
∆T = T2-T1 = 20-0 = 20 °C

Hence, Strain = 20α

Coefficient of thermal expansion depends on material of the rod.
You just put value if alpha you'll get strain.
