Given:

A rod having initial length 10 m is pulled by a force of 10 KN. The final length of the rod is 10.2 m.

To find:

Strain of the bar?

Calculation:

  • Strain is a dimensionless quantity calculated by the ratio of change in length of an object over the initial length of that object.

Let strain be \mu

 \rm \therefore \mu =  \dfrac{\Delta L}{L}

 \rm \implies \mu =  \dfrac{10.2 - 10}{10}

 \rm \implies \mu =  \dfrac{0.2}{10}

 \rm \implies \mu =  0.02

So , strain of the bar is 0.02.

  • Please note that STRAIN doesn't have any unit, because it is a ratio of similar quantities.
