Answer:

Total cost = Rs. 31620

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Length of room = l = 7m

Breadth of the room = b = 5m

Height of the room = h = 4m

Length of side of a tile = s = Rs. 50cm

Cost of painting = Rs. 220 per sq.m

Cost of tiles = Rs. 400 for a pack of 20 tiles.

To find,

The total cost of painting the wall and roof and tiling the floor

Recall the concepts:

Total surface area of the room = 2(lh+bh+lb)

Solution:

Total area of the walls  = 2lh+2bh = 2(lh+bh)

Area of the roof = lb

Area of the floor  = lb

Area to be painted = Area of the walls + Area of the roof

= 2(lh+bh) + lb

= 2(7×4+ 5×4) + 7×5

= 2(28+20) + 35

= 2×48 +35

= 131

Area to be painted = 131sq.m

Cost of painting 1 sq.m = Rs. 220

Cost of painting  131sq.m = Rs. 220×131

= Rs. 28820

The total cost of painting the walls and floor = Rs. 28,820

Area to be tiled = area of the floor

= 35sq.m

Since side of square tile = 50cm = \frac{1}{2}m

Area of the square tile =  \frac{1}{2} X \frac{1}{2} = \frac{1}{4}sq.m

Number of tiles required = \frac{35}{\frac{1}{4} } = 35×4 = 140tiles

Cost of a pack of 20 tiles = Rs. 400

Since 140 tiles require 7 packs of tiles.

Cost of 140 tiles = 400× 7 = Rs. 2800

Cost of tiling the floor = Rs. 2800

Total cost =  cost of painting the floor +cost of tiling the floor

= Rs. 28820 +  Rs. 2800

= Rs. 31620

Total cost  = Rs. 31620
