The area occupied by the verandah is 80.4 m².

We know, area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth

Here length = 9.6m, Breadth = 6.5m

So, area of the room without verandah = (9.6 × 6.5) m² = 62.4 m²

When 2m wide verandah is added on both side of length, then new length becomes = (9.6 + 2 + 2)m = 13.6m

When 2m wide verandah is added on both side of breadth, then new breadth becomes = (6.5 + 2 + 2)m =10.5m

So, area of the room with verandah = (13.6 × 10.5) m² = 142.8 m²

Area of verandah = Area of room with verandah - Area of room without verandah = (142.8 - 62.4) m² = 80.4m²
