Let the width be x m

Outer area = ( 5 + 2x ) ( 4 +2x )

Inner Area = 5 X 4 = 20

Area of verandah = ( 5 + 2x ) ( 4 + 2x) - 20 =  22 m^2

20 + 8x + 10x + 4x^2 - 20 = 22

4x^2 +18x - 22 = 0

2x^2 +9x - 11 = 0

2x^2 -2x +11x - 11 = 0

2x ( x -1) + 11( x-1) = 0

( 2x +11) ( x-1) = 0

Rejecting the negative value , x = 1

Answer:

given length of room = 5m

breath of room = 4m

it said that it has verandah of 50cm all around

50 cm = 0.5 m

now think my friend total length will be 5.5 m beacuse it will be equal to length of room plus verandah

similarly total breath will be 4.5m

now area of TOTAL ( ROOM + VARENDAH) = l×b

which is equal to 4.5 × 5.5 = 24.75 m^2

area of varendah is equal to area of TOTAL - area of ROOM

area of room = 4 × 5 = 20 m^2

we calculated total area is 24.75 m^2

so area of verandah = 24.75 - 20

= 4.75 m^2

or 475 cm^2

hope it helps you mate !!!! good day
