Step-by-step explanation:

Dimensions of room;

l = 5m , b= 4m

Dimensions of square carpet;

l = 1.2 m

(a) area covered by carpet

= l*l = 1.2 * 1.2 = 1.44 m^2

(b) area of floor

= l * b = 5*4 = 20 m^2

(c) area of floor which is not carpeted

= area of room - area covered by carpet

= 20 - 1.44 = 18.56 m^2.

(d) square meters of carpet required to cover the floor of room = area of room

= 20m^2
