Answer:

Given:-

A room is 5 metre 40 cm long and 3 metre 75 cm wide, find the area of the carpet needed to cover the floor.

To Find:-

Area of the carpet needed to cover the floor

Note:-

Here, area of carpet is rectangle so ; Area of rectangle/carpet = long/length × wide/breadth

When units are multiplied then they will be in square form , for example = metre × metre = metre² and cm × cm = cm²

Solution:-

Long/Length = 5 metre 40 cm, Wide/Breadth = 3 metre 75 cm, Area = ?

[ Let's convert the long and wide unit as same]

We know that~

▪︎ 1 \ \ metre = 100 cm

▪︎ 5 \ \ metre \ \ 40 cm ( long/length ) = 5 × 100 + 40 cm

▪︎ 540 cm

Long/length = 540 cm

☆ _______________________

▪︎ 1 \ \ metre = 100 cm

▪︎ 3 \ \ metre \ \ 75 cm ( wide/breadth ) = 3 × 100 + 75 cm

▪︎ 375 cm

Wide/breadth = 375 cm

_______________________

[ Area ]

According to note first point~

▪︎ Area \ \ of \ \ rectangle/carpet = long/length × wide/breadth

▪︎ Area \ \ of \ \ rectangle/carpet = 540 cm × 375 cm

And accordingly to note second point ( unit × unit = unit² ) and after doing calculations~

▪︎ Area \ \ of \ \ rectangle/carpet = 2,02,500 cm²

It can be again converted to metre~

▪︎ Area \ \ of \ \ rectangle/carpet = 2,025 \ \ metre²

Answer:-

Hence, the area of rectangle/carpet to cover the floor = 2,025 metre² or 2,02,500 cm².
