IF IT IS LIKE THIS

A room is 4m long and 3m 25cm wide . How many square metres of carpet is needed to cover floor of the room

THEN:

Length = 2m  

Width = 3m 25 cm  

Since 100 cm = 1 m  

So, 1 cm = 0.01 m  

So, 25 cm = 0.25 m  

Thus the width = 3 m+0.25 m = 3.25 m  

Now to find the area of carpet required .We are supposed to find the area of the floor.  

Area of floor = length × width  

                   = 2 × 3.25      

                   = 6.5m^{2}  

Hence 6.5 square meters of carpet is needed to cover floor of the room.
