Given :

• Dimensions of a room :-

  • Length of a room = 6 m
  • Breadth of a room = 4 m 50 cm

To find :

  • Area of carpet required to cover the floor of the room

Knowledge required :-

• Formula to calculate area of floor :-

  • Area of floor = l × b

where,

  • l = length of the floor
  • b = breadth of the floor

Unit conversion ::

  • 1 cm = 0.01 m

Divide the value by 100 to convert it from cm into m.

Solution :

Firstly, we will convert the breadth of the floor from 4 m 50 cm into m.

As we know,

  • 1 cm = 0.01 m

⠀⠀⠀⇒ 50 cm = 50/100 = 5/10 = 0.5 m

Add 0.5 m in 4 m.

⠀⠀⠀⇒ Breadth = 4 + 0.5 = 4.5 m

Breadth of the floor = 4.5 m

Area :-

⠀⠀⠀⇒ Area = 6 × 4.5

⠀⠀⠀⇒ Area = 27

Area of the carpet required to cover the floor = 27 m²

Some related formulae :-

  • Total surface Area of cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl)
  • Volume of cuboid =  length × breadth × height
  • Perimeter of cuboid = 4 (length + breadth + height)
  • Total surface area of cube = 6 × side²
  • Volume of cube = side³
  • Perimeter of cube = 12 × side

Given

room is 6 m long and 4 m 50 cm wide.

Find

How many square metres of carpet

Solution

Given

l = 4m

b = 3 m 50 cm = 3.50 m

Area = l × b = 4 × 3.50

=14 m2

Hence the 14.m2 jcover the floor room
