A room is 7m 20 cm long and 5m20 cm broad .If square tiles have to be laid in such a way that an exact number of tiles fit in andno tile has to be cut , what is the greatest length off the side of the square tiles

Side of square tiles = 40 cm

Breadth of room = 5m 20cm = 520cm

thus, greatest side of the square tile that should be use to pave the floor of the room is

H.C.F of 720 and 520

i.e. 40

therefore side of the tile = 40cm

Number of tiles required = Area of floor ÷ Area of tile

Required tiles = (720*520) ÷ (40*40)

= 234 tiles
