A room measures 41/2 feet by 67/4 . The floor of this room has to be covered with tiles. All along the four sides against the walls designer tiles measuring 1/2 feet by 1/4 feet are used. If these tiles cost ₹62 each, find the total cost of tiling the border of the room by these designer tiles.

Answer:

The total cost of the tiles is Rs 13392

Step-by-step explanation:

The length of the Rectangle = 41/2

The width of the rectangular floor = 64/4

The measurements of the rectangular tiles is given as :

Length = 1/2 feet

Width) 1/4 feet

From this we can get the rectangles that can fit along the length and width of the floor.

Along the length = 41/2 ÷ 1/2 = 41/2 × 2/1

= 41 tiles along the length.

Along the width we have = 67/4 ÷ 1/4 = 67/4 × 4/1 = 67 tiles.

Total tiles along the length and the width is given by :

= 2(67 + 41) ) = 216

We will need 16 tiles to cover the boundaries of the floor.

Each tile costs Rs 62.

The total cost of the tiles is given by:

= 62 × 216 = 13392

One needs Rs 13392 to tile the boundaries.
