'The room on the roof' is a semi autobiographical novel written by Ruskin Bond when he was just 17. It was published when he was 21-22.

The novel starts with the central character 'Rusty' being unhappy living with his guardian following the death of his parents. He eventually leaves that house and learns to live on his own. He makes friends along the way and learns some important lessons about life.
