let the first part be x
then
second part= 2x/5
x+2x/5= 70
hence x=50
so first part of rope= 50cm
and second part of rope=20cm

Lets say we cut the rope by half which is 35cm.The longer rope is 2/5 longer that the other part.So 1/5=35/5 which is 7cm.2/5cm =7×2 which is 14cm.The longer rope is 35cm+14cm=49cm while the shorter rope is 35cm-14cm=21cm.To check if the answer is valid, and both the long rope and the short rope gives 49cm+21cm=70cm.
