Ratio of the lengths of two pieces = 3:4
Total length = 140 cm
Let the common multiple be x.
Thus, the lengths of the two pieces of rope are 3x and 4x, respectively.

Now, we know that,
3x + 4x = 140
So, 7x = 140
So, x = 140/7
So, x = 20

So, the length of shorter piece of rope
= 3x
= 3(20)
= 60 cm

Similarly, the length of longer piece of rope
= 4x
= 4(20)
= 80 cm

Thus the length of the measuring stick should be 80 cm, so it can measure the lengths of both the pieces of rope.

If it is 60 cm, it cannot measure the length of the longer piece of rope.

HEY MATE HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Total lenght of the rope = 140cm
ratio in which it should be cut =3:4
assume a variable x
tyen 3x+4x= 140
7x= 140
x= 20
tyen the lenght of two ropes is 60 and 80
to mesuure them both we can use 100mts rope
