A rotor has diameter of 4.0m. The rotor is rotated about central vertical axis, the occupant
remains pinned against wall, when the linear velocity of drum is 8 m/s. Compute coefficient of
static friction between the wall of rotor and clothing of occupant. Also calculate angular velocity of
drum. How many revolutions will it make in a minute ?

The revolutions per minute will be 38.21 rpm

Diameter of the rotor = 4m (Given)

Linear velocity of drum = 8m/s (Given)

uN = mg

u.mv²/r = mg

u = gr/v² = 0.306

ω = v/r

ω = 8/2

ω = 4 rad/sec

N = ω × 60 / 2π

= 38.21 rpm

Thus, the revolutions per minute will be 38.21
