A rubber string 10m long is suspended from a rigid support at its one end. Calculate
the extension in the string due to its own weight. The density of rubber is 1.5x103
kgm and Young's modulus for rubber is 5x109 Nm². Take g=10ms-2

Answer:

Given: Initial length of wire = L, Final length = 2L, Hence extension of wire = l = 2L – L = L, Area of cross-section = 1 cm² = 1 × 10-4 m², Young's modulus of elasticity = Y = 2× 1011 N/m².
