Rumen: It is the site where the food is stored after partial chewing. here, some symbiotic bacteria, rumenococcus are present which secrete cellulase. this helps to digest the cellulose.

Reticulum: Here also, symbiotic bacteria are present but it does not play a vital role. It is the smallest chamber and helps the food to pass to the next chamber.

Omasum: Mostly, absorption of water and some minerals takes place over here.

Abomasum: Also known as the 'true' stomach, this is the main site where digestion and absorption of most food material takes place.

They are able to digest cellulose due to presence of cellulase enzyme.
