A running man has half the kinetic energy that a
boy of half his mass has. The man speeds up by
1 m/s and then has the same kinetic energy as
the boy. What are the original speeds of the man
and the boy?

Answer:

A boy and a man running with the same speed have different kinetic energy. Why? Therefore Kinetic energy depends on mass as well as speed. Hence a man and a boy running at same speed have different kinetic energy because although their speed is same their mass is different.
