A running track consists of two 100 meter straightaways plus two 100 meter semicircular ends. Nutt runs around the track at a constant distance of 1 meter from the inside of the track while Bolt maintains a constant distance of 2 meters from the inside of the track. How many meters more does Bolt run than Nutt for one lap?

Answer:

Radius of semi- circular track = 63 m

perimeter of 2 semi-circles = perimeter of 1 circle

perimeter of a circular track = 2πr

Perimeter of circular track = 2×22/7×63 = 2×22×9

= 44×9 = 396 m

Since, the perimeter of the total track is 1000 m

Therefore, the length of two straight lengths track = 1000-396 =604 m

Length of 1 straight length track = 604/2 = 302 m.
