Step-by-step explanation:

let, the present age of B = y years

according to question

the present age of A = 2(y)

before 4 years both ages will be

A B

2y-4= y-4

now according to question

A was 3 times of B

but if we multiply 3 on A then both these equations will not equal so we multiply by 3 on B

2y-4=3(y-4)

2y-4= 3y-12

2y+8= 3y (on adding 12 both side )

8years =y( on subtracting 2y both side)

So , the present age of B is 8 years

and present age of A is =16 years
