AA simple pendulum is pulled to one side, till its string makes an angle of

15o

C with the vertical (fig). On increasing the bob it vibrates about O as

the mean position. Its time period ‘T’ is accurately determined . What

would be the effect on its time period , if any of the experiment is

repeated using.

a. A bigger bob of same material………………

b. A longer string……………..

c. The same pendulum on moon……………

d. The pendulum exactly four times its original

length……….

Answer:

Simple harmonic motion is defined as a periodic motion of a point along a straight line, such that its acceleration is always towards a fixed point in that line and is proportional to its distance from that point.

The mass of a pendulum's bob does not affect the period. ... As mass increases, so does the force on the pendulum, but acceleration remains the same. (It is due to the effect of gravity.) Because acceleration remains the same, so does the time over which the acceleration occurs.

Explanation:

a. If length of string remains constant...the time period will increase as effective length is radius+ length of string.

b. Obviously the longer string will cause increase in time period .

c. The time period will be √6 times of that of Earth...as we know gravity becomes 1/6th(u can calculate to check it).

d. As length is made four times... time period will double.
