Mass % of solution = 40 %

40 g solute in 100 g solution

40 % =  \frac{x g}{250g + x g} * 100

40 =  \frac{x}{250+x}*100

x = 167 g solute

Answer:

Mass of sodium chloride (solution) = 36 g

Mass of water (solvent) = 100 g

Total mass of solution = 100 + 36 = 136 g

Mass percentage of solution= mass of solute/mass of solution X 100

=36/136x100

= 26.47%
