A sample of 100 units is found to have 5 lb as means. Could it be regarded as a simple sample from a large population where mean is 5.64 lb and = 1.5 lb?

standard error of mean =6upon√n=1.5 upon√100=0.15

difference between population and sample means=5.64 - 5 =0.64

three times standard error of means=3x0.5=0.45

since the difference is greater than three times of standard error, the sample could not be regarded as taken from this large population
