A Sample of a gas occupies 10 L at 127°C and 1 atm. pressure. The gas is cooled

to -173°C at the same pressure. What would be the volume of the gas?

According to Charle's law 

V∝T

V2V1=T2T1

Let the initial volume be V.

∴ Initial volume, (V1)=10L

Final volume, (V2)=?

Initial temperature, (T1)=127℃=(273+127)K=400K

Final temperature, (T2)=−73℃=(227+(−73))K=200K

V210=200400

⇒V2=210=5L

Hence, at 730C the volume of the gas will be 5L.
