Answer:

Given = sample of Fe₃O₄

             5% weight

to find = % of FeO in Fe3O4

solution =

  2FeO + 1/2O₂ ---->Fe₂O₃

  2Fe₃O₄ + 1/2O₂----> 3Fe₂O₃

   if we combine this balanced reactions we get,

144g FeO gives 160g of Fe₂O₃

and ,let ag of FeO GIVES

160 X a /144 Fe₂O₃

and,

bg of  Fe₃O₄

160 x 3b/464

add above values according to equation

a + b = 100

160 x a /144 + 160 x 3b / 464 = 105

solve this equation,

we get the values of a and b

a = 21.06

now,% of FeO = 21.06 %
