, A sample of gas in a box is at pressure P, and
temperature To. If number of molecules is
doubled and total kinetic energy of the gas is
kept constant, then find temperature and
pressure will be
1) To,Po
2) To, 2Po
3) To÷2,2Po

Correct answer is :-

4) \frac{T0}{2},(P0)

Solution

Total Kinetic Energy = \frac{3}{2}nRT

Therefore, if kinetic energy is constant;

 \tt \frac{2}{3} n1RT1 = \frac{2}{3} n2RT2

 \tt \: if \: n2 = 2n1

T2= \frac{ T1}{2} \:  \:  \:  \:  \:          ( \frac{T0}{2})

Again,  \: \frac{P1V1}{T1}= \frac{ P2V2}{T2}

P2=P1  (P0)

 \frac{ T0}{2},(P0) are \:  the  \: final  \: temperature \:  and \:  pressure.
