A sample weighs 1.75 kg in air. When the sample is suspended by a light
cord and totally immersed in water, the tension in the cord is 11.2N. Find
the total volume and density of the sample.

Answer:

I will assume 17.5 is in Newtons, if not convert it and do this agian. The buoyant force here is 17.5 N - 10.2 N = 7.3 N

Now find the Volume of the obj knowing the density of water, gravity, and the buoyant force

7.3 N = (1000kg/m^3)(9.8m/s^2)vobj

vobj = 7.45 x 10^4

Now find density of obj divide weight in air by volume times gravity

17.5N / [(7.45 x 10^4)(9.8m/s^2) = density

density is 2397 kg/ m^3
