A satellite is moving around the earth with speed v in a circular orbit of radius r .if the orbit radius is decreased by 1% its speed will?

• According to the question it is given that,
the radius is decreased by 1% , we should calculate what happens to the speed.

• we know that, speed is
v \:  \:  =  \sqrt{ \frac{gm}{r} }


therefore,

ΔV / V = 1/2 ( ΔR/ R)

in the question it is given that,

ΔR / R = 1%

therefore the change in the speed is,

ΔV / V = 1/2 ( 1 % )

implies,

ΔV / V = 0.5%

thus the change in the speed is 0.5%
