A satellite is orbiting around the earth. By what percentage should we increase its velocity so as to enable it escape away from earth

We know that the maximum orbital velocity of a satellite orbiting near the earth surface is,  

v = (gR)^½ = v0  

And the escape velocity Ve = v0*(2)^ ½ = 1.414*v0  

Increase in the velocity = Ve – v0 = (1.414 - 1.000)v0 = 0.414 v0  

Therefore, percentage increase = 41.4%
