Here, h=500km=0.5×106m,

R=6.5×106m.

r=R+h=6.5×106+0.5×106

=7.0×106m.

(a) Now, g'=g(RR+h)2

=9.8(6.5×1067.0×106)2=8.45ms−2

(b) Centripetal force on the satellite,

F=mυ2/r

∴ centripetal acceleration,

a=Fm=υ2r=(gR2/r−−−−−−√)2r

=gR2r2=g.R2(R+h)2=8.45ms−2
