Answer:

Let the age of A be x.

And the age of B be y.

Then, x+y=64

Multiplying by 6,

6x=384-6y ............ (1)

Now, (x-y) is the difference between the ages.

So atq, x =5(y-(x-y))

x=5 ( y-x+y)

x=10y-5x

6x=10y............(2)

Subtracting both the equation.

6x-6x=384-6y-10y

0=384-16y

16y=384

y=24.

The ages are of A and B are 40 & 24 respectively.

Hope this helps you...

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let a = A's present age

Let b = B's present age

:

The sum of their present ages is 64 years."

a + b = 64

b = (64-a)

:

"A says to B, "I am five times old as you were, when I was as old as you are".

a = 5(b - (a-b))

a = 5(b - a + b)

a = 5(2b - a)

a = 10b - 5a

a + 5a = 10b

6a = 10b

replace b with (64-a)

6a = 10(64-a)

6a = 640 - 10a

6a + 10a = 640

16a = 640

a = 640/16

a = 40 yrs is A's present age

then

64-40 = 24 yrs is B's present age

:

Check this out: age difference 40 - 24 = 16 yrs

"I am five times old as you were, when I was as old as you are".

40 = 5(24-16)

40 = 5(8)
