Given: A scale used on a map is 1:900,000.The distance on the map between two cities is 3cm

To find : how far apart are the cities

Solution:

A scale used on a map is 1:900,000

=> 1 cm on map  = 900,000  cm  in actual

100 cm = 1 m

=>  1 cm on map  = 9000  m  in actual

1000 m =  1 km

=>  1 cm on map  =  9 km  in actual

=> 3 cm on map = 3 * 9 = 27  km  in actual

Distance = 27 km

Speed = 90 km/hr

Time =   Distance / Speed

=> Time = 27/90

=> Time = 3/10  hr

= 18 mins

it will take 18 mins to drive from one to the other at 90km/hr
