Given : A school allots £2500 to spend on a trip to the theatre. Theatre tickets have a regular cost of £35 each and are on offer for 1/5 off. A train ticket for the day will cost £20 each. 3 teachers and the maximum number of students attend

To find : how much money will the school have left over

Solution:

Total amount available =  £2500

Theatre tickets have a regular cost of £35 each

offer for 1/5 off.

off = (1/5)35 =  £7

Cost of 1 theatre ticket = 35 - 7 = £28

Train ticket cost = £20

Total cost per person = £28 + £20  = £48

           52

        _______

48  _|  2500   |_

           240

           _____

              100

                 96

               ____

                  4

                 ____

£4 money the school will  have left over

Total = 52  , teacher = 3 , Students = 52 - 3 = 49
