Just double the time to 60 minutes (1 hour) and then double the distance (18 kilometers) and you have the kilometers per hour (36 kph). To determine meters per second first figure out how many meters in 36 kilometers (the answer to that is right in the speed since kilometers is 1,000 meters, so it would be 36,000 meters). Just divide 36,000 by the number of seconds in an hour and you have your answer to meters per second. Many people are surprised to find out at 60 miles per hours you're travelling at 88 feet per second. So if you give the person driving in front of you just 50 extra feet between you, you're losing less than a second to reach your destination safely
